Hello Spartans!

I am Jared A. Garcia, a 3rd year student at SJSU who is ambitiously seeking to become your Associated Students President.

My major is Sociology with a Concentration in Community Change and a minor in Biomedical Engineering.  My student leadership experience includes serving in key roles within the following departments: University Housing Services, the Educational Opportunity Program, and the Office of Student Involvement.

In these roles, I have been able to interact with a large and diverse population of students, received 350+ hours of leadership and social justice training, and developed a comprehensive understanding of student needs.  Moreover, I was recently awarded with the Sigma Level Scholarship Award by my fraternity, Delta Sigma Phi, for acquiring a 3.50-3.99 GPA in the Fall of 2015.

My passion has always been helping students succeed, and as such, my career goal is to become a Student Affairs professional who promotes student success through the design and implementation of innovative student support services.

As A.S. President, I seek to empower and create solidarity for underrepresented communities at SJSU by advocating for additional community summits, increase intentional programming and training across departments to improve the quality of student experiences and leadership opportunities, and to ensure that we, as students, are able to fully utilize our new Student Union spaces.

I believe there is strength in numbers, and unity in diversity. Now let’s go foster our campus community, and vote Jared for A.S. President!
